Holy shit.

When DeepSeek entered the market, everyone was hoping for the same thing: more competition that would push the major players to step up; both in performance and price. That seemed to happen when OpenAI dropped o3-mini.

But yesterday, Google publicly announced and made generally availible Gemini 2.0.

And the pricing? Absolutely insane.

Standard Model:

  • $0.10 per million tokens in
  • $0.40 per million tokens out

Lite Model:

  • $0.07 per million tokens in
  • $0.30 per million tokens out

That’s cheaper than OpenAI for their non-lite model, and so far, performance is looking really solid based on:

This is exactly the kind of pressure we needed in the LLM space.

I’m a bit late to the party as aparently this has been out for a bit as experimental, but still…
