AI really feels like the best excuse people have come up with not to try anymore.

Everyone seems to forget that if “everyone” has AI do all the work, then whats the point of working with anyone else?

I have so many thoughts here its hard to start but here are the few points I want to cover.

  1. AI is being used improperly by a majority of people
  2. AI will lead to us (consumers) getting worse products and services
  3. AI is taking away our ability to think critically
  4. Working without AI will be so difficult most people wont do it.
  5. We will loose what makes us special, because everyone is just going to be “AI”

AI is being used improperly by a majority of people

What we have currently is not actually “AI” its not Artificial Intellgence, its just a great word predictor. YES it does work very well, YES its a major technological advanctage, YES it will help us do what was not pheasable before.

But the best use of a technology is not what it is actually used for.

My issue stems that most people are trusting AI as the truth, when really its wrong a lot of the time. People are even trusting it over professionals in a given field.

While AI may be incredibily knowlegable, and with the growing context limits + RAG it could technically have as much knowlege as needed to answer questions as well as seasoned person like a doctor, the owness rests on the user.

YOU as a user do NOT have enough information, knowledge, or ability to provide the AI with enough context about your specific situation for it to answer better than a professional.

Its like google, if you don’t know how to google properly, and don’t know how to vet information (As well as have some knowledge about the area at hand to know the given information is false), then you should not be using it.

AI will lead to us (consumers) getting worse products and services

There are two parts of this, the first being that AI built software in my opinion is “worse” its worse because its built for exactly its purpose (which it can do well), however overtime the requirements and features will change, and the software will continue to get more and more complicated and unmaintainable by humans (not because its so good but just because its so needlessly complex). I already have this issue where I am now responsible for maintaining a complete AI generated garbage by a consultant who longer works with a company…its garbage.

The second is that our current state of companies, services, etc, is to use technology and its evolutions to do the bare minumum rather than use it to grow and enhance. Aka, instead of products and services utilzing AI (properly) to create whole new experiences that would have never been possible before and are desirable, it will be used to make the minimum bare needed to “work”.

AI is taking away our ability to think

This part is fairly simple. If you get used to googling and finding the answer to every math problem you have at school, when you are faced with a question that you can’t find the answer to, you can end up being lost with no idea where to even start.

The brain is a muscle, and if that muscle is not used, its harder to use.

If we stop writing emails, thinking about situations, planning, working, coding, we will soon be unable to do it without AI. And given AI has MANY limitations, we will not be able to do anything on our own. Which means, instead of AI enhancing our abilities or superseeding them, we are lowering our standards just so that AI can do everything instead of us

Working without AI will be so difficult most people wont do it.

I mentioned this in the previous point, but if we become so reliant on AI to do everything fo rus, we won’t be able to do it on our own. AND we dont even try. Which means something that we can do, just becuase AI has an issue with doing it, means we won’t even approach the problem ourselves.

We will loose what makes us special, because everyone is just going to be “AI”

This is what frustrates me the most. Whatever makes human connection valuable will completly go away as it has already, any ounce of personality you have when writing or communicating (other than verbally) will cease to exist and will just be how the AI talks.

Every email is already written with AI, scripts too, posts also (Not any of mine though that a personal thing).
